Who they are: Josh is a young electrician who runs his own electrical contracting firm, KH Electrical, at just 23-years-old.
What they needed: He got in touch with us wanting to highlight his story, to inspire young people to sign up to his apprenticeship scheme.Josh said he hoped to get more young people from Peckham into a trade, with a stable career with great earning potential.
What we did: Off the back of a popular trend where you approach people on the street and ask ‘how much’ they earn’ – we thought this would work well for Josh’s aims to reel viewers in. We shot the film at the site he was based at that week in Canada Water and wrote an article to go alongside it for print and online. In the story, we also mentioned how Josh and his colleagues were pulled over by police who said they ‘didn’t look like electricians.’
Given the controversial nature of the story, as well as the inspiring aspect – it gained over 120k hits on all platforms, including the video, which got nearly 40,000 total views.
What they said: “The support I had from the community of Southwark was amazing following up to being profiled. I’ve been talking to the youth at workshops and events.
“I’ve also had many business opportunities where I was able to dive into other jobs in and around Southwark and also, I’ve managed to take on 4 new apprentices for the new school year overall. This will bring me to a team of 15.
“I’m ever so grateful to Community Matters for helping me.”
