Who they are: Umana Yana is a Guyanese restaurant in Herne Hill famous locally for their rotis.
What they needed: Twelve years ago, five huge telecom boxes were put outside their shop, blocking the view from the road. As a result, they’ve seen sales plummet and some days they get no customers at all. They’ve been forced to rely on some loyal customers and friends to host fundraisers to help them pay their bills, but they needed to get the story out there to gain exposure and help their business – and eventually get some action to remove the boxes.
What we did: We’d covered Debbie’s story a few times over the last few years in our publications, but knew a video was crucial for people to see how bad the problem was. We went down and shot the video and ran it on all our social media channels. It gained over 140k views on our TikTok alone and resulted in food influencers (with hundreds of thousands of followers) going straight down there to cover the story on their channels.
What they said: “Thanks to you the TikTok not only went viral, but I have been busy ever since.Never in my business history have I ever been busy here since the boxes, and it is all thanks to you Isabel.
“Due to those sales, I will be able to sort out some debts and even get new glasses, as I haven’t been able to see properly for years. The support you have provided me is beyond thank you.”
